Facing the Shadow

Facing the Shadow

Summer is the time of the Visionary, the one in us who tells the truth without blame or judgement. The hot sun can illuminate not only our Light, but our Shadow too. The Shadow is anything we have not integrated, whatever we try to avoid in ourselves.

Perhaps if your key value is work and proving your worth, then play and relaxation is exiled to Shadow.  As we see in the US, our unacknowledged fear of the other is roaring out of the Shadow, unfiltered as racism. With reflection it becomes a deep questioning of how we can move forward together as diverse society. Another example is when we favor control and the life of the mind, and try to keep the unpredictable and innate wildness of the body in check.

What is this season showing you about yourself? Where are you being asked to grow in your self-compassion? If you’d like help with integrating and healing, please contact me.
