Make Decisions with the Body-Mind

Last night I had to quickly decide between scrambling to get to a creative workshop late and doing my own practice at home. This is what I did to bypass the monkey mind and tap the greater wisdom of the body-mind. Next time you have a choice between two courses of action, try this.

Stand and check in how you are. Send grounding roots down into the earth and breathe from the belly a few times. When I did this, I got instantly more relaxed and was aware of grounding. I felt gratitude from my deeper self that I was taking time to really check in.

Step to your right and imagine taking Action A. Let yourself move. Still grounded? What are your emotions / body sensations? How’s your energy now? When I did this, checking out going to the workshop, I found myself immediately un-grounded; I felt floaty and out-of-body, and my arms flapped around in a disconnected way. This did not feel good!

Step back to center, shake it out, reground, and breathe.

Step to your left and imagine taking Action B. How does your body-mind respond to this option? When I did this, my feet felt suction cupped to the floor and a wave of movement enlivened my whole body from my feet up. This felt natural and right. I got excited about doing my creative work at home.

Step back to center, reflect, and give gratitude to your deep inner knowing. I knew within a few minutes of somatic awareness what I needed to do. I did my practice for about an hour and a half, feeling very clear.
