The Holy Fool Says Begin Again
Spring invites us to begin again. In Catrin Welz-Stein’s elegant Tarot of Mystical Moments deck, The Fool is that not knowing as we embark on something new. We may have to wrestle a giant crocodile at some point, but away we go!
I’m starting to take a new course tomorrow on art and shamanism, Kim Krans’s The Infinite Artist. I’m excited to join this international community of spiritual seekers and makers. Looking for new allies and reconnecting with an old friend who’s also in the group.

My winter had me making plans and trying to put together collaborations. Most were postponed, but this opportunity appeared. To learn and share with others, to dive deeper into my own creativity as a spiritual practice.
When things fall apart, notice what’s really calling out for your attention. When space appears in your schedule, step into it with curiosity.
Is this a reminder to rest?
Is this for communing with yourself?
Is this for catching up with friends or family?
Is this for grounding and reconnecting with Nature?

LAND ART RITUAL
Humans have been making art with natural elements since our beginnings. We rearrange twigs and stones, leaves and flowers. We make castles and dig moats in the sand. We make mud pies. We mark places of significant events. Getting our hands dirty and being with earth, water, fire, and air are not just children’s play.
Mandalas and land art rituals are ways to communicate gratitude, to mark a place and time as sacred, or to create beauty with what’s right in front of you. To quickly satisfy that itch for making something out of seeming nothing.
Go out on the land, a wild place, a nearby park, or your own yard.
Find some out of the way spot to create something with just what’s there: leaves, fallen branches and blossoms, stones, feathers.
Note: ask stones if they want to be moved and if they want to be returned to their original place.
Play around with making a design or pattern. Trace a shadow line. Make it elaborate or simple. Accept that we are not all Andrew Goldsworthy!
Make a prayer, a wish. Meditate. Sing something. Dance something. Take a nap. Take a picture. Leave it for others to find. Or disassemble it.
