Carol Harada

I am an energy medicine healer, writer, and artist rooted in the wild beauty and innovative spirit of San Francisco.

A creative mother, doctor father, and Japanese Ancestors have made me an artist healer.

I thrive where healing + creativity + spirituality meet.

As a sensitive child who absorbed others' feelings, I did not know how to claim space for myself and express my own feelings. Instead, I would manifest stomach aches and headaches to get respite from the pressure cooker of school. My doctor father would investigate from his limited perspective, and when he could find no clinical cause, he would dismiss my symptoms as 'psychosomatic' or just made up. When my stubbornness won out, I got to stay home in my pajamas, have soup and crackers, and hang out with Mom, who was always making something beautiful with her hands. Somehow, I knew that the cure was to just be. Because my family had no understanding that emotions and sensations are how the wise body speaks and that we should pay attention, what I was experiencing inside remained unseen and unheard.

And yet, I always knew that my physical symptoms were connected to something real and not imagined. When I was ten, I told my father I wasn't going to medical school. I wanted to be an artist and harbored curiosity about ways to connect inner and outer worlds and help others. My favorite aunt was a clinical psychotherapist and bodyworker who showed me a more expansive world of holistic healing, genuine creativity, and embodied spirituality.

Since 2000, I've guided creatives to navigate change and face challenges, embody their unique gifts and talents, and return to natural cycles of rest and renewal.

I'm seasoned enough to have navigated my own losses, major health crises, and the deaths of loved ones. I draw from somatic practices for self-healing, earth-centered spirituality, Ancestral Healing, art-making, writing, and movement exploration. I'm nested in my ever-evolving marriage and culturally diverse community. I bring my whole self and embodied wisdom to my clients.

I am most passionate about facing the Unknown with clients.

It is a potent, alive, and thrilling moment of creation and healing. We bring curiosity to the metaphorical blank page and ask, "Now what?" My client's inner guidance leads the way, and I intuit and facilitate self-healing. I was made to serve others in this joyful way, giving form to the invisible forces in us.

It took me years of studying and receiving alternative healing to find my right livelihood. I kept following my curiosity about ancient modalities like acupuncture and Reiki that use the energy body as a blueprint for healing. I eventually found my home base in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and Intuition Medicine®. I love discovering what our body wisdom knows and how life force moves easily or gets stuck in our energy anatomy. I learned to sense the quality of vitality and where it needs some gentle support to strengthen itself.

In parallel, I was unlearning art school training and discovering a deeply personal and organic creative process. I claimed myself as an artist healer. I joined a writing community that unleashed my gifts as a fiction writer. Art-making, writing, and healing are all paths of discovery. I learned how to give form to inner experiences through the spoken word, writing, art-making, and meditative movement, just as I was giving language and form to otherwise unseen dynamics in my healing work.

Self-directed American Studies is another vital arena in my life, especially the narratives of cultural minorities in a burgeoning democracy. As a 4th generation Japanese American raised isolated from the Asian American community, I understand the longing for belonging and the need to self-invent and reclaim roots. Ancestral Healing has been a huge part of this. Likewise, I feel great resonance as an ally in the LGBTQIA+ community and in the self-identity triumphs of my diverse array of friends. This universal desire to know and be known as a uniquely whole person drives my practice of supporting my clients.

If you're looking for a guide to help you navigate change, face challenges, embody your unique gifts, and return to natural cycles of rest and renewal, I'd love to connect with you.
